Doubletalk as usual President Bush claims the economy is improving, but he also wants to slash the FAA budget because times are hard.
Which is it?
Bear in mind that in the wake of yesterday's radio crisis, a bigger budget to buy necessary equipment would be a very big help to the FAA, and it would certainly make cross-country and international air travel considerably safer for people in the air and on the ground. One might even say it would promote a little luxury called National Security, if by "national security" one means avoiding stupid, preventable deaths and injuries to the public. And if the economy is as good as Bush claims, that's precisely what any accidents arising from faulty, obsolete equipment would be. If we have the money to make air traffic safer, let's use it, for Apollo's sake!
If, on the other hand, our economy is spiralling toward ruin, then everything--including the FAA's budget--is going to be trimmed back, and such cutbacks are unfortunate but unavoidable. Of course, admitting this entails calling our president, our Fearless Leader, a liar who will say anything to be reelected. I certainly wouldn't want to do that. I might be accused of being partisan, and Zeus knows I'd rather repeat verbatim the messages of both sides than be accused of bias.
In reading around the blogosphere, I've seen a lot of complaints about the election centering on the fact that while Bush is generally despised, Kerry doesn't seem to have a plan to get us out of the situation, therefore it's not clear whom to vote for. Fred Clark has pointed out why this is a ludicrous position to take:
It's perfectly reasonable to demand that John Kerry appreciates the seriousness and the scope of the mess he will be inheriting. And it is reasonable to ask for details on how he intends to undertake the Herculean tasks of restoring fiscal sanity and salvaging Iraq from chaos. But for heaven's sake, let's have a little sense of perspective. The lack of a final draft of a detailed clean up plan is not the same as being responsible for creating the mess while -- even now, still -- pretending it doesn't even exist.
For those still undecided, I would add this: Bush has performed his duties on every front so incapably that he does not deserve a second term. It is true that I do not know for a fact that Kerry will be a better president. (I can imagine a hypothetical universe in which intertial mass is different than gravitational mass, and a hypothetical universe populated solely by opera-singing goldfish, but I find myself unable to imagine a hypothetical universe in which Kerry is a worse president than Bush.) Despite this uncertainty, I say, give Kerry a try, and if he's as bad as Bush, boot him out after four years too! The voters need to send an unequivocal message to our leaders: destroying our economy, alienating our allies and waging a groundless preemptive war will not earn you a second term in the White House.
If Kerry fucks up, we'll smack him too. But even if he's as bad as the most paranoid people imagine, he still has to wait in line for his beating.

Ah, a little about me...
Ah, a little about me...I am very loyal, trustworthy, honest, charming, playful, tenacious, laid back, interesting, sarcastic, simple, affectionate, a little bit silly, dependable and cute:) I carry no baggage, perhaps just a carry on full of experiences I would never think of changing!
I am not looking for perfection, only someone perfect for me. Mutual admiration, someone who gets me, lets me be me, silly quirks, flaws, admirable qualities and all. I am not hoping to find my clone-but someone who does value and share similar traits. At the top of that list though I would expect loyalty and ideally a straight shooter. I tend to speak my mind as I see no reason not to.
I love Sunday morning coffee, road trips, traveling, giggling, hockey, Amateur Porn ,my friends, family, music, my cat (yup...she has a cat, so what?), ice cold beer, cooking, a good movie... lalala, the list goes on and on.
Anywayyyyyyyyy...drop me a line or send a smile if anything here piques your interest.
Good luck with your search.
